Transforming an old post-societ apartment into vertical farming
Concept vision.
Urban studies research and a response to population shrinkage in Eastern Estonia.
The focus area is one of many municipalities in decline in East Estonia, Kohtla-Järve town, Ida-Viru County, where the changing policies and socio-economical actors of recent decades have led to an excess supply of housing. Population shrinkage has become an unavoidable process and calls for new planning approaches, policy strategies, cultural shifting and community adaptation.
This project is a conceptual vision that is trying to respond to the housing crisis in Kohtla-Järve where lack of time and finances requires non-standard approaches and solutions with a combination of ecologically sustainable design philosophy.
